When I was diagnosed with my autoimmune conditions, I thought living a healthy life was going to be so much more difficult. But once I discovered all the incredible resources out there, it’s become so simple, and even joyful. 

I’m sharing four amazing tools to help reduce your toxic load, connect with the earth, heal inflammation, nourish your body, and uplevel your microbiome & overall health. I love sharing the things that I personally use, believe in, and love with others!

THE BEST AIP WRAPS

I absolutely love wraps, tacos, and burritos— pretty much anything that involves a tortilla! I also know my body can’t break down the gluten in standard wheat wraps. I love these Siete grain free tortillas because they’re made with simple, clean ingredients. They’re autoimmune friendly, gluten-free, soy-free, and non-gmo. There are several varieties I recommend, such as chickpea flour tortillas, cassava & chia tortillas, and my personal favorite— cassava & coconut tortillas. They’re sturdy enough to fill your wrap with tons of nourishing foods without falling apart and maintain the flavor and texture of a classic mexican tortilla. 

Another thing I love about the Siete Family Foods brand is their mission and backstory. The founder has a story similar to my own (and maybe yours too). Founder Veronica Garza was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune conditions and as a result, began learning about the ways that food heals or harms. She was luckily able to heal through adopting a low-inflammation, grain-free diet (yay!). Being of Mexican heritage, tortillas are a huge part of her culture so she began making grain-free tortillas, and Siete Family Foods was born. Their tortillas (& other grain-free foods) are delicious, AIP friendly, and I love how mission-driven and family oriented the brand is! 

GROUNDING/ EARTHING

Do you ever get that feeling of calm and contentment when walking barefoot in the grass or along the beach in the sand? Turns out, connecting with the earth provides more than just a joyful feeling— there’s actual scientific evidence of the benefits of connecting to the earth’s energy. I was intrigued when I heard about this, and when I really thought about it— it makes so much sense! Our bodies and the planet in which we live are so much more connected than we realize. 

The supply of electrons on the earth’s surface gives the ground and water a natural negative electric charge. When you touch the ground with your bare skin, your body absorbs electrons from the earth. This is called being “grounded.” Today we wear shoes and live indoors, insulated from the earth. This causes us to actually become depleted of these electrons and disturbs our energy balance. 

To counteract this, I try to “ground” myself regularly! You can walk barefoot or lay in your backyard, swim in natural bodies of water like lakes, rivers, and the ocean, or touch dirt and soil while gardening. If you live in a city, you can still absorb the earth’s electrons through unsealed concrete or brick. If you can’t get grounded outside, there are also some pretty cool Earthing products that connect to the earth through grounding outlets or a grounding rod. These products allow you to absorb electrons without having to brave cold or unpleasant weather.

A member of this community reminded me how important grounding/earthing is a few months back, and shared this really helpful video. I think you will enjoy it too, especially if you are new to the idea!

AIR DOCTOR

I use this air purifier to clear my home of any irritants, contaminants, and pollutants. AirDoctor is super powerful and captures particles as small as 0.003 microns in size (that’s really small!). If you’re experiencing sneezing, wheezing, watery eyes, or fatigue, I highly suggest investing in an air purifier. Allergy season is coming up and if you’re like me when it comes to allergies, an air purifier is a life saver. Removing bacteria, viruses, pollen, mold, and dust mites from the air can boost immune function and lessen the stress load on your lungs. 

What I love about Air Doctor in particular is that it’s really intuitive and easy to use. It has an air quality sensor that evaluates the air in the room and automatically adjusts to the correct filtration level. The fan is also so quiet I don’t even notice it, even at high speed. It’s an awesome addition to your home to help reduce those toxins.

DAIRY FREE COFFEE BEVERAGES

I always look forward to my morning cup of coffee. There’s something about that rich aroma that starts my day off right. I’m here to tell you a cup o’ joe CAN be part of a gut health and autoimmune wellness routine as long as you consume it at the right point in your journey and in the right quantity, quality, and time of the day! It has some pretty amazing benefits such as high polyphenols, protection against disease, and strengthening of the heart.

Coffee is no longer beneficial however when we start packing in the dairy creamer, sugar, or sweeteners. The casein protein in dairy can be difficult to break down and digest, especially when healing your gut or autoimmunity. This is why I love experimenting with different kinds of autoimmune friendly dairy-free coffee beverages.
