This hot chocolate recipe is killer because it tastes super decadent and reminiscent of the classic hot chocolate we all grew up on, yet doesn’t hit you with that inevitable sugar hangover.

Now that we have entered the month of December, it is the official start of Christmas decorating! It’s time to hang the lights, set up the tree, and take in that holiday magic! And if you have kiddos, it’s even more reason to cherish every moment in this season! 

I thought you could use a delicious and most importantly— gut-healthy hot chocolate recipe as you celebrate the start of the Holiday season!

This hot chocolate is rich, decadent, and so nourishing. It tastes indulgent but is actually super nutritious!

It includes natural sweetener, superfood cacao, dark chocolate chunks, steamed coconut milk, and beneficial collagen— all of which are super healing for the gut lining. 

Cacao and 70%+ dark chocolate not only provide that rich chocolate taste, but also many health benefits! It’s rich in polyphenols, which reduce inflammation and repopulate good gut bacteria. Plus, it’s a great source of iron!

Collagen is a powerhouse for the gut! It repairs the gut lining, regulates stomach acid, and is rich in the amino acid glycine, which helps with daily detoxification. 

But when it comes to collagen, remember quality matters! The collagen I recommend you add to this recipe is Perfect Brand Hydrolyzed Collagen. Hydrolyzed means that the collagen is broken down into peptides, which is easier for your body to absorb.

Healthy Hot Chocolate Recipe for the Holidays

Description

This hot chocolate is rich, decadent, and so nourishing. It tastes indulgent but is actually super nutritious!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Coconut Milk (Canned, full fat)
  • 2 tbsps Raw Cacao Powder
  • 2 tsps Coconut Sugar
  • 1 oz Dark Chocolate (at least 70% cacao. I use 10 Hu gems )
  • 1 tbsp Collagen Powder
  • 1/4 cup Filtered Water (Boiling)

Instructions

  1. Add the cocoa powder, coconut sugar, and dark chocolate to a mug. Whisk well with boiling water to combine.
  2. Add collagen peptides. Continue to whisk until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  3. Add coconut milk to a saucepan or milk steamer/frother. Heat it over medium-low heat.
  4. Pour steamed coconut milk over the mixture to fill the rest of the mug. Sprinkle with coconut sugar and top with coconut whip or marshmallows (optional). Enjoy!

Notes

 Mint Hot Chocolate: Add peppermint extract.
