Need a refreshing reset? This spicy melon cucumber salad is light, hydrating, and perfect for hot summer days.
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Last week, we were hit with a mini heat wave out here on the East Coast, and after sweating all day long, I came home hot, tired, and not in the mood for anything heavy.
Did you know? The energy dip you might feel when the temps are high is often due to dehydration! Even if you’re chugging water all day long, if you don’t have enough minerals or electrolytes, your cells won’t absorb that water to keep you sufficiently hydrated.
This leads to that sluggish, dragging feeling that makes you want to lie on your couch in the air conditioning all day.
And that’s EXACTLY how I was feeling.
What’s the solution? Hydrating foods can actually be MORE hydrating than water because of the essential minerals and vitamins that they contain. Think cucumber, melon, citrus, even tomatoes.
I ended up making something so refreshing it felt like a reset button for my whole body… Spicy Melon & Cucumber Salad!
This recipe is crisp. Juicy. A little sweet, a little spicy. And the best part? It leaves you feeling so hydrated instead of weighed down.
Why I’m loving it:
Includes several hydrating foods, making it perfect for hot days or post-workout
Naturally cooling + soothing for your gut
Light but bold and interesting enough to keep your taste buds happy (the spice is helpful for inflammation, too)
Pro tip: Pairing foods that are high in water content with a touch of natural sea salt or lime juice (like in this salad) ALSO helps your body retain hydration for a longer duration.
Whether you need a quick side dish, a refreshing afternoon snack, or something fun & delicious to bring to a gathering (it looks fancier than it is), this recipe is a great option!

We’re still in the thick of summer and those heat waves aren’t past us quite yet.

So the next time you’re dragging in the heat, skip the extra iced coffee and try boosting your hydration with food instead. It might surprise you how energized you feel!!

"When it comes to balancing our body, healing the gut, reversing autoimmunity, and achieving optimal health—we are a lot like a car that won’t run right. In order to fix the problem once and for all instead of relying on jumper cables, we must get underneath the hood, run the diagnostics, and replace the battery so that it runs good as new."
